Something really remarkable happened yesterday ... as some of you know I've been struggling through my weight watchers journey lately, but I've made some changes recently and feel I'm finally on a better path. One of the routines I'm trying to establish is asking if a food is worth it's points value (basically calories for folks that don't do 'points').
Yesterday, I went to Panera - I ordered a ...smoked turkey sandwich believing I was making a healthy choice, right? Then the cashier asked if I wanted the 99 cent pastry add on, of course I said yes and picked out a cookie. (Habit alert!)
So, I sit down to eat and decide, I've got my smartphone, I'll figure out the points. Well, the side of chips are easy the label is right there - 4 points for a very small bag, no thanks. Then I check the sandwich (you know I'm thinking I've made a good choice...) well, it was 11 points! YIKES! But, I had 13 points still for the day, so still doing alright.
I'm now scared to look at the cookie info .... knowing I only have 2 points remaining. But I'm on this good path, so I have to look. This lovely 99 cent cookie ... it's 13 points!!! Is THIS cookie, on THIS day worth using my extra points? I considered having a bite ... but decided I wasn't likely to stop at one bite.
What to do? I decided no bites ... too dangerous and took the chips and cookie to my Mom (she can afford the calories!) This is a bravo worthy moment for me ... a big change in my behavior and perhaps a big turn in this difficult journey to a healthy weight. :)
